About Hand Scraped Hardwood Flooring

By Amanda Baird

There is nothing that can bring such warm and homey atmosphere in your home as hand scraped hardwood flooring can. Wood never gets out of style, and there is no need for carpets or similar insulation or decorative elements when you have it on your floors. Beautiful textures, lovely, natural colors and that special warmth only wood can provide will make every space comfortable.

Industrial wood floors can also look beautiful, but hand scraped hardwood flooring is something else. Wood is amazing decorative element, but it also brings special warmth, and it is a great insulation material. Some types of woods are more suitable for floors, for example red oak, maple, bamboo and pine.

Widely used red oak has numerous amazing characteristics that make it especially suitable for flooring. Oak is very hard, wear-resistant and scratch-resistant material. It has an appealing texture and can be stained in whatever color you like. Even so, like all wood flooring, it looks great as it is, with only a clear topcoat. Beautiful golden colors can be emphasized using stain.

In these last two decades, bamboo got popular all over the world. This is entirely different type of wood, and it cannot be processed like other types. You need to make a board of its stalks, and then cut this board into parquet. Bamboo is resistant to water and heat, and can be used even if you have a floor heating in your home. It is available in different colors, and matte or glossy look.

Lighter and much softer pine can also make lovely floors. Hart-wood pine and sapwood pine look very different. Sapwood is much softer and lighter, and bigger pieces of furniture might damage it. The most interesting characteristics are numerous pin holes and knots. They are actually considered to be irregularities, but they look so interesting that they are the main reason for pine's popularity.

Heartwood pine floors are especially attractive. Besides being much more resistant to scratches and wearing, heart-pine floors have beautiful reddish-golden nuances you will fall in love in. That's why these floors are usually treated only using clear topcoats, to preserve this lovely color. Sapwood pine can be very light, almost white, but it is softer.

If you like very bright floors, maple tree is more expensive but better quality version. Maple is an extremely hard and resistant wood excellent for making floors. It has a high density and not overly noticeable texture. The price depends on the color. The most expensive maple floor is one that is brightest.

There are two special characteristics of maple you would want to be informed about. This wood type doesn't stain easily, especially not in darker nuances. Extreme density is the main reason for this. If you try to stain it anyway. It might look blotchy. Another fact is that after some time the color might become yellowish, and you should be aware of this.

Hand scraped hardwood flooring will transform your home. Wooden floors look great in all rooms, and you can put them in your kitchen and bathroom as well. If properly protected, they will be water-resistant, and long lasting.
