Just Starting To Workout? Here Are Some Easy Tips

If you have finally decided to start working out and stop being so sedentary, good for you! Beginning an exercise program is one of the best things you can do for your body. Not only will you have more energy, you will boost your immune system and lower your risk of diabetes, heart disease and some types of cancer.

It is not wise to start off with a really intense workout. You might think that a big workout means you will be getting in shape faster, but that is not the case. Your muscles need a chance to slowly increase strength and endurance. So start off slowly, and each week simply increase the intensity of the workout.

Consider creating a basic workout that includes about 30 minutes of aerobic or cardiovascular exercise. You can choose a variety of aerobic activities; perhaps you will use the treadmill three times per week, enjoy a bike ride one day and go swimming another day. Maybe you prefer to do the same exercise each day, and that is fine, as well. Consider loading up your MP3 player with some fun, upbeat music or download a book on tape and catch up with your reading.

Strength training is another important component of your workouts. Strength training exercises include everything from using weights to sit-ups to push-ups and squats. Consider doing strength training exercises three times each week.

To help prohibit muscle injuries, soreness and strains, be sure to do a warm-up before beginning your cardio workout. This gives your muscles the opportunity to slowly warm up, which is safer. It also is a good idea to close your routine with cool down exercises. If your muscles do ache, consider icing them down with a cold compress and making sure you get a good night's sleep.
