As Charles Schulz, the creator of the Peanuts cartoons once said, "All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt." Most of use certainly would agree that chocolate can make our lives a bit better, and this delectable sweet is one of the most popular foods on earth. Eating chocolate, particularly dark chocolate, has many health benefits. Dark chocolate is rich in antioxidants which can reduce blood pressure and improve our cardiovascular health. Some studies even suggest enjoy sensible amounts of cocoa can reduce your risk of developing diabetes. Dark chocolate also has been found to improve our memories and attention span and even improve our mood.

There are quite a few similarities between coffee and chocolate, especially in regards to production. Like coffee, chocolate actually comes from a seed from the cacao tree. The seeds are fermented, then washed, dried and eventually roasted. After this process is done, the shell of the seed is removed and the center is ground up and used to produce cocoa.

While the Aztecs and Mayans used chocolate for many thousands of years, it was Europeans who added milk fats and sugar to chocolate and transformed it into a sweet treat. John Cadbury was the first chocolatier to develop a way to emulsify chocolate and create a solid chocolate bar, and today Cadbury still produces millions of chocolate bars and candies each year.
