How You Can Make An AUX Input

How You Can Make An AUX Input

By Jeff Wincott

An auxiliary input lets you to connect an external stereo device to your own vehicle's head unit. Linking the AUX port requires bridging the signal input to your own car's stereo deck with both an FM transmitter or FM modulator. The FM transmitter connects to the deck by way of wireless signals, or signals competing with radio waves, which leads to degradation of signal power. Use an FM modulator to reliably link your external devices for your vehicle's stereo system.

Lift the vehicle's hood to access the battery. Use an adjustable socket wrench to loosen the bolt that retains the negative battery cable clamp for the battery's negative terminal. Go to the interior of the car.

Consult the vehicle repair manual for guidance. Common measures include using a trim panel removal tool to remove the dash panels. Remove the screws on each phase of the stereo unit with the screwdriver, and slide the deck from the vehicle's stereo mounting dock.

Disconnect the stereo wiring connectors from the retailers on the back of the top unit. Connect the car's stereo wiring contributes to the wiring harness adapter lead. Practice the color-code on the wiring harness for guidance in linking the wiring properly. Plug the wiring harness adapter leads into the accompanying outlets on the back of the unit.

Follow the colorcode on the leads or consult the wiring harness manual for a diagram to guide your links.

Disconnect the antenna lead from the back of the stereo and plug it into the antenna input in the FM modulator. Plug the FM modulator's antenna cable to the FM/AM antenna input in the back of the stereo unit.

Set the FM modulator's chief box in the back of the stereo dock or in the adjoining glove compartment. Slide the stereo back into the stereo dock and replace the screws with the screwdriver.

Feed the FM modulator's direct to the glove compartment or down to the storage area under the head unit. The road to feed the FM modulator's lead depends on your own specific car. Consult the repair manual for methods to route the lead so it is accessible for connection to the external device.

Go back to the battery and change the dashboard panels as described in the repair guide. Replace the negative battery cable clamp on the negative battery lead. Tighten the bolt to secure the cable's clamp to the terminal. Close the vehicle's hood.
