Increase Your Home Safety With Outdoor Perimeter Protection

Increase Your Home Safety With Outdoor Perimeter Protection

By Mark Mahaffey

When you think of increasing your home safety and security, you might first think of what happens if a thief actually makes it into your house. But did you know that the outside of your home is actually one of the most important places to deter a criminal?

The sooner you can be alerted about the presence of an intruder on your property, the better. This is why outdoor perimeter protection is so important. The perimeter of your property is your first defense against criminals. There are many ways that you can set up your outdoor perimeter protection. Just keep in mind that the more layers of protection you can set up, the safer you will be.

One of the first things to put into place for home safety and security is video cameras. Purchase outdoor cameras so that they can withstand the variances of weather. Put several up and position them so that you have good views of your driveway, your sidewalks and all entry doors to your home.

Naturally you do not want your video cameras recording all the time. This can be prevented by purchasing motion activated cameras. These cameras can be set to automatically turn on and off depending on whether there is motion or activity in the area. These cameras will significantly improve your home safety.

Putting up a fence is also important. The taller and stronger the fence, the less likely that a criminal will want to try to make his way onto your property. Put a gate at the drive way and lock it. This is also a good place to install a surveillance camera.

The amount of light that is present in your yard and driveway is also important and contributes to your home safety. Criminals do not like having to do their dirty work in highly lit areas. Install lots of motion-activated security lights for better security.
