Steps On Cleaning Up A Blocked Sewage Pipeline

Steps On Cleaning Up A Blocked Sewage Pipeline

By Andrea Davidson

When one runs a household, he will have a lot of problems if he experiences a blocked sewage pipe because then he will not be able to properly do all of his daily rituals. Now in order to be able to fix the problematic pipe, one has to first have some basic knowledge on plumbing. If he does not, then he may follow this step by step guide on how to fix the issue.

Now there are a lot of reasons as to why pipes get blocked but there are of course four main reasons. The four main causes of blockages would be grease that has already dried, paper that was flushed down the drain, and waste materials that also go down. Since these are the most common things that people would throw down the pipes, then they would also be the causes. A fifth but not so common reason would actually be dead rats or other animals that would get stuck somewhere in the middle of the pipeline.

Now after knowing some of the common causes of this problem, then one may proceed to the actual fixing process. The first thing to do would be to find where the clean out plug is. In normal households, this will usually be in the basement or probably somewhere near the main sewage line.

The next thing to do would be to open up the clean out plug and make sure to have a bucket ready at hand. The reason why one must have a bucket ready at hand is simply because whatever causes the clogging might just fall out. Of course one would not want to have any dirty components or waste materials on himself.

After that, then the following step is to grab a plumber snake and use it to push out the waste. Now this thing is made specifically for this kind of job as it is like a vacuum that will use pressure in order to flush all the dirt out. All one has to do is to just keep on applying pressure until everything just comes out.

When this process is already done, then one must now take out the plumbing snake and fetch some hot water. He will use this hot water in order to wash out all the remaining residues inside the pipe. The hot water will be able to melt all the blockages and makes sure that all of them are taken out.

After that, change the clean out plug and assemble back everything in place again. Now if one notices that there are still some issues with the plumbing, then he may try again until there are no more problems. If he has done every step in this guide and still nothing happens, he may have to go deeper in the pipeline.

So as one can see, there are a lot of steps to take in order to address the issue of a blocked sewage pipe. Now just to be safe, he should not drop just anything inside the drain otherwise an instance of blockage will turn up. Now if one notices that the problem still persists no matter what he does, he may have to just call a plumber.
