The Way To Install A Power Capacitor

The Way To Install A Power Capacitor

By Jeff Wincott

There is frequently lots of confusion on how to wire a car audio capacitor. There are two terminals on a car audio capacitor. A positive and a negative. The negative terminal is linked to earth. The positive terminal is joined "in-line" with the car audio amplifier 12 volts terminal. Ideally the power capacitor should be as close as possible to the amplifier. In a couple of feet is okay. This keeps any cable losses to a nadir.

An electrical capacitor is placed between your car battery and the car audio amplifier. A power capacitor is utilized to assist to provide large amounts of up-to-date without creating a considerable draw to the vehicle's electrical system. An electrical capacitor will avoid crushing draw in battery and the vehicles alternator and provide maximum performance for the car audio amplifier.

Before you put in a capacitor, you must charge it to stop blowing fuses. Utilize a voltmeter together with a resistor to charge your sound capacitor. You can now wire the capacitor in parallel to your vehicle amplifier.

Remove the inline fuse in the vehicle audio amplifier power cable. Disconnect the power cable from the vehicle audio amplifier with a screwdriver.

Connect one end-of the 4-gauge ground wire to the same place the vehicle audio amplifier is grounded. Connect the other end-of the 4-gauge ground wire to the negative side of the power capacitor and fix it tight using the wrench set.

Insert a 1k ohm resistor within the fuse block rather than the car amplifier power cable fuse. Connect the volt meter for the positive and negative terminals of the power capacitor; the first reading must be zero volts.

Connect the power wire to the positive side of the power capacitor and observe the volt meter. After the volt meter reaches 12-volts, the power capacitor is correctly charged. Leave the car amplifier power wire joined to the power capacitor.

Slide a terminal connector over one end of the 4-gauge power cable and secure it by squeezing it tight using the pliers. Set the 4-gauge power wire on the positive aspect to the power capacitor together with the car amplifier power wire. Secure them tightly against the wrench set.

Connect the 4-gauge power wire to the to the positive terminal on the amp and fix it tight with a screwdriver. Install the first fuse into the fuse block for that car amplifier power wire. In the event your power capacitor has a digital display, you will see a smaller third terminal on the energy capacitor; this needs to be hooked up to the amplifier's remote wire to turn on the digital display.
