How A Chiropractor Can Help Alleviate Hip Pain Naturally

Hip pain can be very distressing to those afflicted with it. Ranging from dull to intense this discomfort may extend into the back and thighs and can impede one's normal movements. The best way to put an end to this issue is to address the underlying problem that is causing it. A chiropractor offers a safe, non-invasive, drug-free approach.

There are different causes for discomfort where the femur joins the pelvis. Sometimes the cartilage wears out, it may be due to an injury or condition resulting in inflamation, or it may be referred pain that actually has its source elsewhere. The chiropractor will first aim to find the cause rather than just treat the symptoms.

A misalignment in the sacroiliac joints which are found in the lower back, is another common reason for hip discomfort. These sensitive joints are especially prone to strain and stress exerted on them by some types of movement, and often from pregnancy and childbirth which often results in expansion and misalignment of these structures.

The first step in treating this problem will be to reduce swelling, and next to restore normal mobility to the joint. The chiropractic practitioner will be able to determine what the underlying condition is by thoroughly examining the patient and taking a detailed health history from him or her. There may be the need for x-rays or other diagnostic tests as well. Once this issue has been identified, the best course of therapy will be recommended.

Usually the most effective approach involves a combination of therapeutic techniques and possibly some lifestyle changes to lessen the chance of a recurrence. These healthcare professionals do not prescribe medications or recommend surgery as traditional doctors do, in fact these methods are believed to ignore the root cause of the pain and prolong healing as they merely address the symptoms. Timely treatment can help prevent long-term damage to the affected joints.

When the soreness is caused by misalignment of the sacroiliac joints or elsewhere, the chiropractor will most likely apply some adjustments to the affected joint to restore normal alignment. The practitioner may also use massage or apply ice to alleviate swelling and encourage healing. The patient may be instructed how to perform a set of passive range of motion or stretching exercises which are designed to restore mobility and can be done easily at home.

It can also be beneficial for the patient to take a nutritional supplement which the chiropractor will recommend. One such supplement is a high quality fish oil. This can be taken in capsule form and is a potent anti-inflammatory agent. It is also good for the health of nervous tissue in the body such as the sacral nerves.

The chiropractor will usually develop a personalized therapy plan for the patient with hip pain that will encourage moderate movement but not in excess as to exacerbate the condition. With the right balance of nutrition, exercise, and physiotherapy many patients will begin to feel substantially less discomfort in several weeks or so, depending on the severity of the disorder.
