Drain Cleaning Keeps Home Functioning Properly

Drain Cleaning Keeps Home Functioning Properly

By Melissa Wilson

Although slow moving drains are annoying to a home occupant, they are a signal that something needs to be done. These pipes are in the process of forming a complete clog, blocking the waste water from leaving the home and resulting in backups. Drain cleaning can prevent the problem from happening.

When cooking, many people make the mistake of disposing unwanted fats down the sink. No matter how much hot water is added after the fat, it will eventually solidify in a line. The sticky fat then attracts other particles of foods and wastes from the kitchen to form a plug. At this point one may need the help of a plumber.

In the tub or shower problems are often due to hair. Over time, hair builds up in drains and collects soaps and other materials to the point the shower is barely draining. When operating properly, one should never be standing in water when showering. Installing a screen may prevent the problem from developing.

Toilets often stop flushing correctly due to paper plugs. Sometimes, all that is required is a little time for the paper to dissolve and break up. A plunger may also help. If all else fails, it is time to call for help from a plumber.

When more than one fixture is experiencing a problem the trouble is sometimes in one's main. Many different problems result in this trouble. Sometimes, it is from tree roots that have grown into the line to block the flow. A rooter can be used for cutting through the clog.

Drain cleaning keeps plumbing working as it should. Regardless of the fixture giving problems, they can help. Homeowners can also help by being careful what they flush down pipes.
