Being Prepared To Play Polo

Being Prepared To Play Polo

By Brennan Huff

Improving horse riders have the option to try a wide range of different riding sports, for example, skilful competitions such as dressage, for the more daring rider, show jumping or cross country riding, or for the team sport enthusiasts, Polo is a great activity to get involved in. Consisting of teams of four players, Polo, like other team games has designated positions and roles for every member of the team. Polo is played on a pitch, with each player riding a horse and holding a Polo mallet. This is then used to attempt to hit the ball into the opposing team's goal.

To play Polo, all players must wear the appropriate safety equipment in order to prevent themselves from serious injury as best as possible. A player could easily be hit by a flying ball or mallet, and of course, they could fall of their horse. The most essential piece of Polo equipment that every player must wear is a helmet. Polo helmets differ from standard riding helmets as they have different safety features that are designed specifically for this sport. Some helmets also feature a metal faceguard to give extra protection from balls or mallets hurtling at a players head.

Sport specific riding boots must also be worn. Most riding boots come to just below the knee, featuring a flat sole with a small heel of no more than an inch. This ensures that the player's foot does not slip through the stirrup. This could be very dangerous in the event that a rider loses control of their horse.

As well as there being plenty of equipment for the rider, there is also a lot of polo equipment on the market for a horse. As well as a saddle and bridle, horses may need to wear special skid boots which can provide shock absorbency for when the horse is racing up and down the polo pitch. The rider may also need to use a particular bit in the horse's bridle in order to provide accurate control when it comes to instructing the horse to turn quickly in a certain direction.

In addition to this safety equipment, making sure a horse is also of paramount importance. This means that riders must ensure that their horse has healthy joints as considerable pressure is put upon them whilst taking part in a sport such as Polo. Designed by vets. Using high grade pharmaceutical ingredients, supplements such as NAF Superflex help to prevent horses from gaining injuries and pain, and make sure their joints are healthy and supple. Most supplements such as NAF Superflex are mixed into a horse's food.
