The Perfect Milestone Birthday Event

The Perfect Milestone Birthday Event

By Elba Fenwick

When we hit the big 3-0 or the big 4-0 or 5-0, it might seem a bit ominous, but really it is the perfect time for a huge celebration. After all, these special milestone birthdays are a time to look back at all of our accomplishments and enjoy looking ahead toward the future. If you are planning a birthday for someone turning 60, 50, 40, 30 or another milestone, here are some suggestions.

It can be fun to have a special theme for a milestone party. For instance, if the birthday boy or birthday girl was born in the 1960s, have a 60s theme party. This includes having people come in costume and also playing music from that decade and perhaps even setting up a buffet of foods popular back in the day. Another theme would be an "Over the Hill" theme where people bring small gag gifts for the honored and aged person in question. You could also plan a party around a favorite interest or a special memory from childhood.

Finding decorations is as simple as heading to the local party store or going online and finding "over the hill" items or items relating to the age the person is turning. Most party supply companies have all sorts of items, including plates, tablecloths, napkins, cups and other decorative items displaying 30, 40, 50, 60 and sometimes even higher ages. Another fun decoration example would be to put up 40 pictures for someone turning 40, as well as 40 interesting facts about the birthday girl or boy. Be sure to include their 40 favorite songs and play them throughout the night.

Generally for a larger party, it's best to consider serving food buffet-style. This all can be prepared before the party begins, and you can keep everything warm in crock pots or chafing dishes. Set up a beverage bar with lots of easy options, as well. You can stick with wine, beer and non-alcoholic drinks such as iced tea, lemonade, water and soda if you like. If you want to serve cocktails, consider letting guests mix their own or simply serve just one or two cocktails to make it easier.

When we think of birthdays, birthday cake seems like the obvious choice for dessert. While this is the tried and true standard, a better option might be something a bit more extraordinary such as chocolate pizza. This gourmet chocolate delight is handcrafted by Chocolate Pizza Company and not only is it delicious, it is visually appealing as well and even placed in a true pizza box to ensure a memorable presentation. Chocolate Pizza Company offers dark, milk and white chocolate varieties to please any palate.

Rather than using a dough crust, the staff at Chocolate Pizza Company creates the crust by mixing homemade English-style toffee and melted chocolate and pouring it into a pizza pan. Toppings are then added, and these range from a splash of white chocolate or maybe mixed nuts or perhaps a Campfire Pizza that is topped with crunchy graham cracker pieces, mini marshmallows and a drizzle of white chocolate. There are also "Happy Birthday" pizza options which can be customized. Guests can simply break off pieces of pizza and munch away as they mingle with other guests.
