Enjoy A Slice Of Heaven With San Pedro Belize Rentals

Enjoy A Slice Of Heaven With San Pedro Belize Rentals

By Imelda Reid

Read almost any list of top idyllic island destinations and chances are that Ambergris Caye is on it. Also dubbed 'La Isla Bonita', this is the place that Madonna sings about in her popular hit from the Eighties. If you want to hum along while feeling the island breeze in your hair, all you need to do is to check out some San Pedro Belize rentals online and then buy your ticket to paradise.

San Pedro is the largest town on Ambergris Caye, just off the coast of northern Belize. It started life as a fishing village but now the town's main source of income is tourism. This means that there is an excellent tourist infrastructure with plenty of accommodation options but luckily the town hasn't lost its laid-back Caribbean character.

The main reason for many people to come to Ambergris Caye is for the excellent diving here. There are many dive shops in town and you'll even be able to get your open-water certification here. The Hol Chan Marine Reserve is located just a couple of miles to the south and here you can swim with stingrays and nurse sharks. There are some prime snorkeling spots as well, for instance on the reef facing town.

There are many activities for those who prefer to literally keep head above water too. Try chartering a boat for the day and go sailing the Caribbean waters or try your hand at fishing. Alternatively, go windsurfing or even kite-surfing or simply bathe in the warm waters. The beaches are normally quite small but an abundance of wooden piers means that you'll never run out of places where you can work on your suntan.

The little island town's convenient location makes it easy to visit other parts of Belize, whether you want a weekend getaway or just a quick day trip. Among the mainland's many attractions are mystical Mayan ruins and various wildlife sanctuaries. Among the other islands to explore is Caye Caulkner, famous for its lobster. For the ultimate diving experience, consider a trip to the Blue Hole.

Even though San Pedro is small, it has all the amenities a visitor may want. There's a huge selection of restaurants and you'll also find plenty of supermarkets and shops where you can stock up on provisions if you'd rather self-cater. The nightlife is bustling pretty much every night of the week and beachside bars are just the place to go to quench your thirst with a rum-based cocktail.

There are two main options for getting to Ambergris Caye. One is to fly in from Belize City, since the island has a small airstrip. More popular though is to take a boat from one of several other destinations in the country. Because of the subtropical climate, there is no bad time to visit. However, conditions are most comfortable in the first three months of the year, which is why this is high season.

The most widely spoken language on Ambergris Caye is English. You'll also hear Spanish and Kriol. Accommodation is plentiful and there are options for different budgets. It's good to book well in advance, though, to ensure you get the specific slice of heaven that you want.
