A Few Steps Towards Finding Success With Your Dog

A Few Steps Towards Finding Success With Your Dog

By Jessie Colandog

Dogs can be big or small. They can be furry or furless. They can be black, white, brown, red, or grey, or even a mixture thereof. They can be happy or sad, and which they are often falls upon your shoulders. If you want a happy, healthy dog, read on to find out how it is done.

1. If your dog gets lost, it is very unlikely that you will see him again unless he has proper identification. Tags can come off, so the best option is a microchip. It is quick to put in your dog, and it causes minimal discomfort. Simply register the chip ID after it is put in, and your pet will always have his identification with him.

2. It is fine to hug your dog, but avoid those wet kisses. Dog kisses may be seen as cute, but their mouths aren't all that clean. Dogs rummage through trash, drink toilet water and lick other dog's body parts. It's a folk tale that dogs have cleaner mouths than humans. It is not necessarily true.

3. Never allow your dog to be alone with small children, no matter how much you trust his temperament. Many little kids have been attacked by family dogs who have otherwise never demonstrated a tendency towards violence. Sleeping dogs may be woken by a toddler and react negatively or some other offense is committed against the animal that sets him off.

4. Ease your dog into knowing a new baby that comes into your home. Dogs can be very jealous and you need to continue to show him plenty of love an affection, even though you've got a brand new bundle of joy in your life. Talk to the dog as you handle the baby and keep him in the loop.

5. When preparing to groom your pet, start the session off on the right foot by helping your dog relax. Spend a few minutes simply petting him, starting with the head and then rubbing the back, paws, belly and even tail. Once you feel your dog is happy and content, begin grooming him.

6. Giving your dog a bath is essential to his health. Depending on his size and activity level, toss him in the tub weekly or monthly and always use a shampoo that is made for dogs and is pH balanced. Pets have different pH levels than humans and a good dog shampoo will leave your canine clean with a beautiful shiny coat.

7. To prevent the hair around a dog's paws from matting, you should keep it trimmed. You should use a comb to straighten out the hair a bit before trying to trim it. If you are not comfortable with this process, it would be a good idea for you to go and get it done by a professional groomer.

Now that you have reached the end of this article, have you learned something new? If so, how will you start to use it in your everyday life? The most important part of learning is using your new knowledge, so take the time to implement this advice and enjoy the benefits you receive.
