The Long Island Home Inspection

The Long Island Home Inspection

By April Briggs

For any person who owns a home, there is always a need to make sure that the house is in top condition at all times. The only way to establish this is through a long island home inspection. Conducting this assessment will involve making certain that one has obtained a checklist that can be used in guiding him on what has to be done.

The best assessment is always the one that begins by assessing the condition of the exterior parts of a house. Among the areas you need to focus on will be the gutter and the roof. Make sure that there are no missing shingles.

While assessing the roof, you will also need to guarantee you check out the gutters and the chimney as well. All these are part of the roofing area. For the chimney, all you have to do is check it for any missing bricks. In addition, it should be straight from top to bottom.

Use the ladder to climb down and inspect the siding area. It is important to confirm that all sidings are straight. Any problem along the siding will usually be characterized by the presence of bowing or bulging along the length of the siding.

As you inspect the siding, you can also make sure that you spend some time checking out your foundation. For the foundation, you will be checking whether it has any cracks on it. A crack is a sign of weakness and must therefore be noted in your findings.

Some houses are constructed in such a way that they have some space beneath the foundation area. Where this space is present, you will need to ensure it has also been inspected. An inspection of this specific area will involve checking for molding.

Once this has been completed, you can now begin to check out the interior of this residence. This must however begin by first checking out the doors. Make certain that the doors do not have any weathering signs on them. Weathering is often brought about by changes in the climatic conditions.

All rooms must be given the same amount of attention. You will need to make sure that the light fixtures in all rooms are functional. For the kitchen and the bathrooms, the faucets and taps should also be working properly. Check for any leaks before proceeding to the next room.

Another important area to assess will be the ceiling. Your ceiling is an important part of your house. It should therefore be considered as well. When inspecting a ceiling, you will mainly be looking at whether it has any stain marks at all. Stain marks are used to confirm that leaking is indeed in taking place.

You should always complete this assessment by going through available appliances. Make sure that each appliance is functional. What you need to do is to turn it on and off in order to establish whether it is working or not. For any observation you make, ensure it is noted down for future analysis.
