When it comes to decorating the rustic fireplace mantels, they tend to add a sophisticated look that is both elegant and beautiful. Therefore, any decoration made should be a complement to the rough edgy look in the fireplace. Beautiful rustic fireplace mantles do not only warm up people but their eyes too. It is therefore important to know how to decorate the mantle in a bid to impress more.

Since the main aim is to have a rustic feeling, old seasoned timber is one the best way to achieve it. Naturally, the wood looks tough and rough from the patterns and the cuttings made. When polished, the wood is preserved but leaves the look intact. Therefore, it makes the hearth mantle look old achieving the desired look.

A stone built mantle usually has much bucolic character. The earthly elements; bricks or stones can be loosely arranged in a pattern or random making the mantle look aged and a bit rough. Old age and unfinished sculptures inspire an impression of pre modern times to a place or thing. Therefore, having such aged sculptures would paint and impression of a mantel, unrefined to the eye. This includes wood carvings, metal sculptures and ornaments collected on the past.

One can make a mantle be more elegant and old looking by having icons to the theme you intent to have on. If one would want to decorate the mantle with a farmhouse theme, farm icons or sculptures should be used as the decorative items. A wild theme would incorporate wild colors and animal sculptures if not paintings.

No matter the decoration, one should not feel closed in to not expressing his or her own personal choices and preferences. Since decoration is a matter of personal sense of style, experimentation is allowed. But keenness should be observed to avoid overdoing and cluttering the mantle. Simple is always best to achieve sophistication and elegance to antiques.
