Learn How Long Island Headache Sufferers Find Relief Through Chiropractic Care

By Matt Chaderia

Patients with chronic headaches seeking chiropractic care is nothing new. However the development of Active Release Technique, referred to as ART, occurred somewhat recently. The therapy has been shown to effectively reduce pain associated with headaches. Long Island patients have been very pleased with Long Island Active Release Technique as a safe way to relieve their pain.

ART is an advanced chiropractic method for treating soft tissue, which includes the tendons, ligaments, muscles, nerves and blood vessels. Doctors of chiropractic have observed that these soft tissues developed scar tissue when subject to repetitive motion or trauma. The scar tissue affects the surrounding muscles, tendons, etc., and alters movement. In time the surrounding soft tissue can become shortened or weakened. This in turn may result in decreased range of motion or pain.

Basically, your chiropractor uses his hands to determine which areas have been affected by scarring and massages the soft tissue. This has the effect of breaking up the scar, which frees the soft tissue so it can return to normalcy.

This is an oversimplification as there are over five hundred movements in the active release technique protocols. There is nothing generic about ART. The practitioner uses specific movements to locate the affected areas on a specific patient.

A study done by the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health reported that twelve percent of all workplace absences were due to tension headaches. The same study showed that researchers were able to make significant improvements in tension headaches with ART, supporting the veracity of the therapy.

From a purely logical standpoint it makes sense. The effects of scar tissue can be seen on the outside of the body when there is an injury. The healing skin thickens and tightens. Since skin replaces itself, the scar and its effects fade with time. Inside the body the thickness and the tightness of the scar tissue continue to have adverse effects on the surrounding soft tissue. ART effectively breaks up the scar tissue, thus freeing the other soft tissue. Headache sufferers are not the only patients who will find relief with Active Release Technique.
