Preparing Against Cancer

Preparing Against Cancer

By Rey Vetangelo

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 12.7 million people get the unsettling news that they have cancer growing in their bodies. Of that 12.7, 7.6 million die every year-almost 60%.

That's a scary statistic. It's more than just a small chance of anyone getting it.

The National Weather Service has come accustomed to calling these winter storms the Deceptive Killers. This ominous designation was so applied to winter storms on account of the sharp increases of deaths that occur following the passing of such a storm.

Although there is no one cause of cancer, many doctors believe that you can take measures to prevent it. Preventative measures include: cervical and colorectal cancer screening to find lesions that could become cancerous, a complete set of vaccines, protection from the UV rays of the sun, abstinence from smoking, a balanced diet, self-examination, and regular doctor visits.

They do not see the problem, so they do not think there is a problem. The truth is that this is a very big problem that needs to be solved as efficiently as possible as soon as possible.

Firstly, a family or individual can begin to prepare themselves by equipping their home or apartment with an emergency kit.

Many times they discover it only after it's become a problem. If this is the case for you then you should start treatments immediately.

Treatment can cost a lot of money though. If you don't have the financial means or the right insurance to help you through, you may find yourself in a sticky situation.

These and other items as deemed by the family will be useful in any emergency but will likewise come in handy during a winter storm.

The business of insurance supports the system by collecting monthly premiums from you for a number of months/years before you make a major claim. By that point in time, your contributions to the company have helped supplement the costs of your medical bills.

Many people also think that certain things could never happen to them. They could never get diagnosed with cancer; that is something that only happens to other people.

If a person does need to drive somewhere during or immediately following a winter storm they should use extreme caution while doing so and be sure that they have medical health insurance as well as car insurance.

It's easier to secure coverage before you have a "pre-existing condition." Although there are some insurance plans that make getting health insurance after cancer possible, you'll have to be prepared for a good search before you get approved.

When it comes to cancer, don't mess around. Take what measures you can to prevent it.

By being prepared beforehand for a winter storm, individuals and families in the United States can be in the best position possible to not only weather the storm but mitigate damages to their home.
