How Artificial Putting Greens Can Improve Your Golf

How Artificial Putting Greens Can Improve Your Golf

By Andrea Davidson

Artificial putting greens are intended to reproduce real playing conditions. You can have them installed at home, enabling you to practice your putting and have some fun. They are generally priced at around $300 but they can last for many years so you will avoid having to replace them regularly.

Synthetic grass requires little maintenance which makes life easier. Real grass requires lots of knowledge and effort in order to be maintained properly. It's time consuming which means you are able to practice less. The ease of keeping an artificial green means you will have more time to practice.

Nylon turf is a popular choice because it can be placed on a concrete base. It's advised that your nylon surface should play faster than the surface at your local golf course. Elite coaches say that this helps to improve your putting and makes it seem easier in a real match scenario. This is due to the fact that the real green will be easier to play on because it'll be slower.

Sand filled greens can also be laid on to concrete. The grass for this type of surface is made from plastic. The main downside is that the sand can be blown around so this type of green needs some looking after. You will need to give it a brush every two or three weeks to stop the sand from clogging up the green and making it hard.

If you have children you can still use one because synthetic grass is safe for them to play on. Similarly, if you have a pet like a dog, it will do them no harm. The pile can usually cope with claws and the like. If your pet urinates on your green there is no need to worry because it will wash away without causing any damage. Rain will clean it but you can wash it yourself with a brush if you prefer.

If drainage in your garden is poor, then you will want to lay your artificial green on a hard base. This will enable fluids to seep through the surface and drain away. If you put your green straight on to your lawn, then you can run into problems with drainage and eventually cause a flood.

There are many other products on the market which may help you to improve your game. Chipping mats, golf nets, and bunkers can be tailored to your particular requirements. If you are eager to accelerate the development of your golf though, you may want to take lessons with a professional coach or purchase an educational DVD, there are many available on the market.

Synthetic grass is proving to be very useful in a range of sports at the moment. It is being used regularly in hockey and soccer for example. It is unsurprising that more and more golfers are using artificial putting greens to improve their game. As a result of the way technology has developed, they are now very near to real grass in terms of look and how they play. The fact that many professional golfers are now using them is further evidence of their increase in popularity.
