When You Need A Hot Water Heater Replacement

When You Need A Hot Water Heater Replacement

By Brian Winters

Water heaters deserve to be appreciated since they are responsible for supplying hot water in different household tasks. Your unit is designed for your convenience, especially during chilly seasons. If you want to prolong the life your heater, do not hesitate to schedule regular maintenance. If your old water heater has been constantly failing you, consider buying a replacement unit instead.

To avoid accidents, always make sure the heating source is turned off before carrying out repairs. If you have an electric-powered unit, shut down the circuit breaker. For gas water heaters, simply turn off the gas supply valve. Do not let water enter the tank during the repair process by turning off the water supply. These steps should protect you from encountering accidents, especially since a water heater can convert into a dangerous device. It helps turning off the unit the night before inspecting it to avoid scalding water.

Once your water heater stops producing hot water, have your unit checked if it needs a repair or a replacement. Check whether your dip tube has fully corroded. This tube is responsible for leading cold water down to the burner for proper heating. Once it gets rusty, cold water can hit the hot water pipes directly without even being heated. You can ask a specialist to replace the dip tube properly.

Excessive sediments inside the tank can cause the water heater to produce less hot water than it used to. When this happens, the water volume that can be stored will be limited. You can solve the problem by draining and flushing the tank every six months. However, you may have to buy a replacement unit once the hard water minerals are now too heavy for the tank to handle.

Sediments can cause the water to contaminate if you don't take action on time. It is normal for water to discolor and smell bad if the tank is filled with hard water minerals. Solve this issue by draining and flushing the tank to prevent your family from ingesting germ-filled water. Neglecting this step can result in serious health complications.

To reduce the sediment buildup, always make sure your anode rod has not yet deteriorated. This rod is responsible for attracting all charged water molecules inside the tank, protecting your tank from rust and corrosion. Once it measures less than of an inch, have it replaced as soon as possible.

Look for a more energy-efficient water heater if you're tired of spending too much money on your electric bill. Tankless water heaters are now taking the scene since they help save time and energy at the same time. Forget about huge tank-style units, these heaters don't need to insulate water during the day. No need to worry about flooding your basement or having a corroded internal tank. Tankless heaters are expected to last longer than conventional units. Hence, the high price tag.

When it comes to replacing water heaters, always ask help from a specialist. Have your unit checked if the damage can still be repaired or not. Get advice on what kind of unit will suit your hot water needs. Ensure proper water heater installation to avoid encountering problems in the long run.
